Spring on the Isle of Mull

SkylarkAfter some glorious Winter weather on Mull, Spring has now sprung! It is now an ideal time to experience the ultimate spring wildlife on the island.

All our resident birds are displaying or breeding, winter birds are still here in good numbers, and our summer visitors are arriving daily.

The puffins should be arriving back on the Treshnish Isles and Staffa from the end of March until early April and boat trips are available from Fionnphort, Iona and Ulva Ferry.

We, here on Mull, firmly believe that the island is the perfect choice as 'The Outdoor Capital of Scotland', if not Britain. It has just about everything to offer the naturalist. Magnificent scenery, moulded by an impressive geological history and a wonderful wealth of wildlife-rich habitats. These support a species-rich diversity of plant, animal and bird life that is the envy of many places.

In the Springtime the machair of Mull and Iona (an area of low-lying, fertile, coastal plain) becomes a carpet for rare wild flowers and birds such as Dunlin, Ringed Plover and Lapwing are regularly seen.
