Craignure  
 
Craignure is where the Oban to Mull ferry terminates on the Isle of Mull. Craignure is worth a visit in its own right, whether you are going as a foot passenger or taking your car across for a longer stay on the island.

There are a number of attractions all within easy reach of Craignure, Mull Rail, Torosay and Duart Castles, Wings over Mull and fabulous walks. More information about the ferry can be gained by phoning the Booking Hotline 08000 66 5000 or visiting the website www.calmac.co.uk

 Mull Railway  
 
For the location on the Google map click the marker. Mull Rail is the first island passenger railway in Scotland and home of the Balamory Express. A journey of great beauty, with views of the sea and mountains taking you to Torosay Castle.The station is five minutes walk from the ferry in the direction of Iona. You can walk through the woods to Torosay Castle and take the train back to Craignure. Open Easter - October

For the location on the Google map click the marker. The oldest inhabited castle on Mull, home to the 28th Chief of Clan Maclean. Visit state rooms in the 13th century keep, take a journey back through the ages in the exhibition of clan history, see the prisoners in the dungeons and climb to the top of the keep for spectacular views.  Hire a kite, have a game of boule. Walk through Millenium Wood. The castle tea-room offers home baking and fabulous soup.

 Castle Shop. Duart is open from 1 April (phone for times) and daily 1 May to mid-October, 10.30am to 5.30pm. The CalMac ferry to Mull lands at Craignure. The Duart Coach meets it daily. By car, Duart is 1.5 miles from the Kilpatrick turning on the A849. Also, the motor launch “The Duchess” leaves from Corran Esplanade slipway in Oban.

Relax in the principal rooms of a beautiful Victorian home. 12 acres of spectacular gardens with formal terraces, an impressive statue walk, woodland and water gardens, all offset by dramatic views over the Sound of Mull.

Childrens' adventure playground. 1.5 miles south of Craignure A849; by Narrow Gauge Railway or Woodland Walk both from Craignure. Call in at the Craignure Tourist Office if you need directions. Open daily 10.30 to 5.00pm, April 1 to 31 Oct. Gardens open all year.

Walks from Craignure  
  There are many forest walks around Craignure and a challenging walk up to the aerial masts. The experienced hill walker may like Dun Da Ghaoithe, Mull's second highest mountain. The views are spectacular. There is an easy coastal walk from Garmony to Fishnish. For information contact Mull Magic Tel: 01688 301213 who conduct guided walks in this area and will take you to the hidden settlements and point out the wildlife along the route.  
   

 

 Craignure Church

Standing on a green south of the inn at Craignure, the parish church of Torosay was built in 1783 with His Grace the Duke of Argyll as patron.  It was thoroughly renovated in 1828 and again in 1832 following a lightning strike.  During 1869-71 the church was renovated and repaired once more at a cost of £244.4.2d.

 Mull Swimming Pool  
 

The brand new Isle of Mull Swimming Pool was opened in 2008 and represents over a quarter of a century of persistent fund raising by the Community of Mull.  The Pool is  a 16m x 6.5m semi-level deck pool with a small children’s paddling pool.  More about the Pool click here

Craignure Golf Club  
  Location on map
Craignure Golf Club built on flat to undulating machair ground is a complete contrast to the hilly Tobermory course.  Close to the ferry point of Craignure, the course was originally established in 1908. After falling into disrepair, it was re-established with a nine hole layout in 1980.  The course is now home to a welcoming club and has been lengthened with new tees.

Craignure
has a number of woodland walks that that add to the choices available for a good day out from Oban. It is always worth considering coming as a foot passenger with a day return on the Mull ferry to Craignure. Mull Magic, Island Encounter and Isle of Mull Wildlife Expeditions will all collect you from the ferry and give you a wonderful day out on the island.
