Mull Virtual Tour in 360 degree images

The Isle of Mull Virtual Tour is comprised of panoramic photographs from all over Mull and its neighbouring islands, Iona and Ulva.  It offers 360 degree panoramas of stunning views from the top of Ben More, Mull's highest mountain, to the picturesque harbour front of Tobermory.

The images listed are accessed by clicking on the underlined link.  However, to be able to view these images you really need to have Netscape Navigator series 4+ or Internet Explorer 5 installed.   Also you should be accessing the Internet with an up-to-date modem  56+ or Broadband.  You can get these images on slower connections, however, you have to wait for quite a while for them to load.

With an average connection the images should take about 20 seconds for the first one to load.  After that, the next ones will take less time as certain bit of  the system will have pre-loaded.  If you have difficulties with any of the requirements above there is the option to view each image by itself, without any movement.

2. Aros Castle was once more important than Duart Castle and was the major stronghold of the Lords of the Isles. The ruins of the castle can be found at Aros mains, near Salen.

3. Salen on the east coast of Mull lies at the narrowest point on the island, halfway between Craignure and Tobermory. It was built around 1800 by General Lachlan Macquarie, former Governor of New South Wales

4. Glenforsa Airfield must be one of the most stunning airfields in the country. It opened for regular flights on 13th September 1966 but there are now no scheduled flights, the Logan Air flight from Glasgow ceased in 1980.

5. Balmeanach Park is a quiet camping site set within a forest. It has its own 7 acres which has been classed as an Environmentally Sensitive Area. This district offers forest walks and shore walks marked by Forest Enterprise.

6. Craignure Golf Club built on flat to undulating machair ground is a complete contrast to the hilly Tobermory course. Close to the ferry point of Craignure, the course was originally established in 1908.

7. Mull Rail is Scotland's original island passenger railway. It is 1¼ mileslong and operates steam and diesel hauled trains to Torosay, where you can visit Scottish Baronial Torosay Castle.

8. Torosay Castle is a beautiful Victorian home with 12 acres of spectacular gardens, formal terraces, an impressive statue walk, woodland and water gardens, all offset by dramatic views over the Sound of Mull.

9. Duart Castle is the oldest inhabited castle on Mull, home to the 28th Chief of Clan Maclean. Visit state rooms in the 13th century keep.

10. Grasspoint - There is a new parking area just before you get to Grasspoint. From here there are excellent views across the estuary and you should be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the White-tailed Eagle.

11. Lochbuie Stone Circle - This is a small and well preserved stone circle overlooked by spectacular Ben Buie and standing within the grounds of Lochbuie House.

12. Lochbuie is situated at the head of Loch Buie on the south coast of the Isle of Mull some 14 miles from the ferry terminal at Craignure. The area is renowned for its scenic landscape, shimmering beaches and abundant wildlife.

13. Carsaig is a sheltered bay, that provides an excellent location for an interesting walk. The black sands and rocks of Carsaig are one of the few locations on Mull to look for fossils.

14. Kilvickeon Beach is stunning, connected by a sandbar to the tidal island of Garbh Eilean. There are fabulous views out to Jura and Islay.

15. Kilvickeon Churchyard lies south east of Bunessan between Loch Assapol and the sea and is approached along a gravel road at the end of which is parking space. These medieval ruins can easily be seen to the right.

16. Uisken is one of the most popular beaches on the Isle of Mull. It is a  shimmering expanse of white shell sand with breathtaking views out to Colonsay and the Paps of Jura.

17. Ardalanish Beach is another of Mull's hidden gems. A shinty match is held here on the beach every New Year's Day, 10 am until the tide comes in.

18. Fionnphort Beach  - Fionnphort also has a lovely sandy beach with a distinctive cracked granite boulder in the centre, known as Fingal's Rock.

19. Fionnphort View - There are wonderful views over to Iona from Fionnphort, none better than watching the sun set over the island.

20. Iona Abbey Cloister carvings were commissioned by the Iona Community in 1967 but not completed until 1997. The carvings depict various plants and flowers of the Bible, flowers of Iona and Britain and birds of the highlands.

21. Iona Abbey Exterior -  Iona Abbey is run by Historic Scotland and is open all year. Guided tours run regularly and are included in the admission charge.

22. Iona Abbey Interior The abbey was founded by St Columba in AD 563 and is now a  celebrated focus for Christian pilgrimage. The abbey church retains many fine medieval features.

23. Iona Nunnery now a ruin was once a Benedictine convent. It was established in 1203, with Beathag, daughter of Somerled, as first prioress.

24. Iona Golf Course The Machair is home to sheep, cattle, and golfers, this is one of the most scenic golf courses in the world and is free to play.

27. Kintra is a small settlement on the north coast of the Ross of Mull.

28. Bunessan is small village which lends it's name to a hymn tune, originally associated with the Christmas carol, Child in a Manger.

29. Pennyghael is a very picturesque hamlet rather than a village, situated on the south shore of Loch Scridain.
